Popular Questions

Below are our most popular questions. If you question hasn't made the list then reach out to our friendly team.

What should I bring?

Warm clothing, waterproof jacket and comfortable/sturdy shoes. A camera is also a must have to be able to snap some stunning photos during your flight. Let the pilot know if you want a group photo by the helicopter - they are more than happy to get involved.

When should I arrive at Milford Helicopters?
Please arrive at our base at the Milford Sound Airport at least 15 minutes before your flight departure time.

How can I get to Milford Helicopters and is there parking onsite?
Our base is located at the Milford Sound Airport. We don't have a car park onsite but there is plenty of parking in the car parking areas at Milford Sound. Our base is a short walk from the car park or there is a bus that regularly runs between the parking areas, the aerodrome and the ferry terminal.

What scenic flight is most popular?
Being in Milford Sound, Fiordland with such stunning scenery all of our flights are enjoyed! Going from our feedback from clients, the most popular scenic flight would be the Glaciers Galore flight. The views are unforgettable and it includes a glacier landing! These book out super fast and have limited availability. Also very popular is the Sutherland Falls scenic.

What is the minimum age for flights?
We can carry passengers of all ages. We have special earmuffs/headsets available to suit babies and smaller children. They will love the flight just as much as you.

Do you require a minimum number of passengers for a flight to go ahead?
All scenic flights require a minimum number of passengers to go ahead. If your flying solo let us know as we can do our best to organise a flight for you with another passenger/group or maybe you want the helicopter and specialised pilot all to yourself to explore Fiordland!

Does the flight include commentary?
Certainly, English commentary is provided on all flights from our knowledgeable and experienced pilots. They enjoy explaining the sights on offer! Allowing you to connect further with the locations as you learn of the history and local information of the scenery.

How do you get a weather check?
All flights operate subject to weather. Passengers need to call the day prior to departure for a weather check, to confirm booking details and receive confirmation of departure time.

How many passengers can you fly?
We can regularly cater for up to twelve passengers in one group. We are able to easily organise flights for more than this if we have some warning. Minimum numbers do apply but we are able to cater to less if needed.

Can we land in remote locations?
Milford Helicopters are proud to hold landing concessions in Conservation Areas in Fiordland, Otago and Stewart Island. This means we have many stunning landing locations throughout to be enjoyed during your flight. We also have private access to numerous lodges, farmlands and helipads.

Does Milford Sound have reception?
Part of the adventure with Milford Sound is that this location does not have reception. Don't by any means think this will spoil your fun! Take a breath, relax and enjoy being disconnected from technology for a change. As above we do recommend to bring along your camera to capture moments throughout your flight.
